In an effort to make sure Goose doesn't have some sort of post traumatic stress disorder after reading how much shopping we did in four days time I'm going to highlight a few of the things we did to get moved in before we had to return the rental car.
- We ordered a bed and couches since we knew we couldn't fit them in our car. I'm not a huge fan of sleeping on the floor unless there is a blanket fort involved then I'm all over it!
- Goose is now officially a Wal-Mart greeter. We spent so much time wandering up and down their isles with two carts in tow that folks believed we were employees. I've never reached for so many items on the top shelf in all my life.
- Canadians love their Dollar Stores, which was a great benefit for us.
- There is a grocery store called No Frills that is similar to Food Maxx/Food for Less which is right up the road. Great deals, but quality can be a bit sketchy at times.
- I found a similar store to Ross, not much shopping happened for the house but I found some great winter clothes.
- Called and turned on all relevant utilities...until Goose and I realized that we would not have power our first evening. So, it was pizza by candlelight and an early evening to bed for us.
- The rest of the week was filled with us assembling flat pack furniture until our backs got tired and making sure we got laundry done since the washing machines at the building are being replaced.
Needless to say my lists everyday were longer than Santa's for all the items I felt we needed. By day four Goose was clutching his heart and his wallet and his conversation pattern went something like this:
Goose: "Are you sure we need (insert any household item here)?"
Eagle: "Yes"
Goose: "Really? I mean, didn't we buy something like that already?"
Eagle: "Yep, but it was for the bathroom, this is for the kitchen."
Goose: "Can't they share?"
Eagle: "Nope"
Goose: Hangs head dejectedly "OK, if you say so...."
In my defense I did try and leave him home one day but I think he was afraid of what I would have purchased if he wasn't there. Hee hee :)
Below is a quick video of our cozy apartment. It's my first attempt at using the video option on my phone so if it's too dark or shakes a bit that's due to my learning curve!
For all you super nerds out there I made sure to get a glimpse of the Battlestar Galactica blu-ray box set in the video! We just started the series so for all of those that recommended it, it's awesome so far.
