As the rest of the month cruised along we spent as much time outdoors as possible. Below are pics from a few events to wrap up July.
Halifax Jazz Festival:
Normally I'm not super excited about jazz music. I tend to prefer more of a blues style since it has a whole lot more soul. It seems the Halifax Jazz Festival had all music types covered. For seven days you could see free concerts from noon until 5pm. After that concert halls, pubs, and any place that could hold seating all over town sold tickets for different size events ranging between $15 to $40 a ticket. The Jazz Festival is so popular hotels were sold out and I was told if you didn't purchase tickets early that I should try and catch the freebie shows during the day. I loved the venue so much I attended four of the five days they played for free downtown along the waterfront.
Friday Nights:
Our current Friday evenings have been spent at a restaurant called Freeman's Little New York. Yes, I found it ironic that we're in Canada and eating at an establishment named after an American city. Needless to say the pizza is blah, but nothing replaces going to a bar and having a beer with buddies. One of our favorite parts of the night is when our friend Evan, who lives just around the corner from the pizza joint, pops in for a beer with his son. His wife and daughter stay home so the "guys" can have some time together. The little guy is fascinated by the bar and all the action.
Tall Ship Fever:
Being in the Maritime area they are crazy for any kind of Tall Ships. The more masts and sails the better. This summer the American Barque Eagle sailed into the bay and was open for tours. She's America's only Tall Ship serviced by the U.S. Coast Guard. We were happy as the tour ended since the pirate in us got to take home a piece of silver for completing the tour. It's a cute stamped coin with the ships anniversary date. The table top gamer in us thought it would be a great prop used as treasure.
It's Cocktail Time:
The Nova Scotia Liquor Commission hosted a cocktail class in the summer. Since all alcohol is controlled by the province run retail stores or private brewers/distillers finding classes can be tough. This one was a bit of a bus ride but well worth the effort of attending. I walked away with a recipe book, special vodka glasses and a list of local places to check out that serve delicious adult beverages.

As July came to a close we were still looking forward to some warmer weather but were very happy that the sun has been shining! It hadn't reached over 75 degrees yet. Most folks told us to wait for August and September. With dreams of summer we ended the month with a beer while watching the sunset over Chocolate Lake.
